Looking at the coach, it has 8 windows and 3 doors. Looks as though it still has the bulkheads inside from compartments.
In other words, it was a conversion from a Mark 1 SK.

was going to suggest some sort of early sandite coach as it appears to have lights on the nearest end - but strange choice as it doen't appear to have any handbrake.
Maybe painted with warning ends and cut out observation window for this role?? or maybe just painted like this to look like a DMU for an emergency services exercise using redundant stock

John Hall has suggested it may well be 061025 / 26109 ex Worcester London Rd Yard with Restaurant 1946 next to it ex Carlisle.

However it does also look very similar to 977145!

That is definately 977145. Open seating, retrofit aly frames and vaneer draught screens identify it as a non melamine open which tallies. Note the dent on the roof above the centre door and corrosion on the 6 inch line below the 2nd furthest passenger compartment which is clearly visable in both images. Case closed for me !
