  so how come so much stock was here around this time? was it a holding / overflow yard for the scrap place at Margam?

  Often a good variety here, as there was always some room once it had little function as a revenue yard.

  There was too, an element of holding before/after a visit to Cathays shops, where some conversion work was usually under way.

  cathays had a reputation for its departmental conversions, all the good conversions were done there.
