These Ruston & Hornsby locomotives were used in permanent way yards in the south west and sometimes on weekend engineering sites. Some used to carry BR blue livery while others were yellow. Today only 97654 remains in regular use at Slateford.
I believe this one has been preserved and is now at Northampton & Lamport Railway.

I seem to recall that another example is preserved at Great Northern and East Lincolnshire Railway at Ludborough near Louth.

At the turn of the 70s a sympathetic driver allowed me to drive this loco whilst shunting in Radyr PW Yard.
An enjoyable morning.

Apparently this also carried the number 89651 around 1992 but not sure what this was for - I know some preserved locos have also been allocated 89xxx numbers subsequent to this but presumably this one was not passed for mainline running?!

Moved from N&LR to the Strathspey Railway. Now in use for P-way work.

Ben Williams said: "Apparently this also carried the number 89651 ...." - a side on view of 97652 @ Laira shows the stencilled legend "CCE Plant No. 83652" below the works plate so I think your 9 is a 3.
