Is this still used today or is it stored/ 'preserved'!?

It is still used - on this occasion it was coupled with 975290 (photos on site soon) and normally used in testing of new pieces of kit that are tested on the branch - most recently the new Loram rail grinders I think.

I think actually it is now preserved as it was last seen buried in amongst other wagons at Ruddington.

The wagon was transferred to the DM&EE test department in the early 1980s and designated TOPS code ZXA. ADC201055 was often seen in freight wagon test trains with Test Car 1 (ADW150375) running from the RTC Derby. The inclusion of the ZXA within the often short freight vehicle test trains provided additional brake force, but the main purpose for its use was as a ride comparator vehicle, and a benchmark for the assessment of ride performance of new or modified freight wagons and on-track plant. More details about freight wagon and plant testing can be found in my book about ‘Rail Vehicle Testing’ ISBN:- 9781999935603.
