  Anyone know when and why these Southern Region 083xxx series tanks ended up in Scotland?! 083578 at Rutherglen being the other? Or were they only in the IU series for a while before moving north by rail as their former wagon numbers? I don't think either actually carried their 083xxx number?

  Wagon defintately was carrying its IU number when I bought it for the Caledonian Railway. It had been delivered to Dundee yard about 1985 for an emergency services training exercise which never happened and remained there for 20 years without moving until we bought it. It had been overhauled immediately before arriving in Dundee and is in excellent condition despite 20 years of idleness.
