    Keith tells me:

    "053 was something of a celebrity unit and it is to be regretted that no vehicles were saved. It was a training unit, formerly numbered S10.

    Originally 3-SUB unit 1782 (converted from LSWR steam stock in 1930 on LBSCR underframes); augmented to 4-SUB unit 4579 (with trailer 10460) in 1947.

    Unit disbanded in 1953. The original three coaches (Motors 8564 and 9817

    and Trailer 9658) came together in 1956 as instruction unit 010 and numbered DS40, DS42 and DS41 respectively. The unit was withdrawn in 1974 and stored at Selhurst and Micheldever before being scrapped at Ashford Works in 1976."
