There were, in the mid-80s, 32 vehicles available at the base in Salisbury and fulfilling various functions. Customers, be they commercial companies, govt departments, or railway, specified the vehicles needed. Usually a repaint for the contract duration was involved.
A Rank Zerox train spent 3 years touring the country in the mid-70s, including forays onto the continent and behind the iron curtain.
The train in the pic was BR celebrating the 150th anniverary of the GWR. Early 80s, IIRC.

Off context I know but does anyone know the vehicles that made up BR's travelling college during the early '80's. Were they numbered in the departmental series so as to fall under the content of this website? Also is there a publication available which covered the formation as I would be interested in finding out more about the train and its use?

The whole 12 coaches from the travelling coolege were brought by the Bluebell Railway. I suggest you contact Richard Salmon fron the Bluebell,s website.

Obviously BR operated it, but the college was a private venture.

Travelling College was in the private owner coaching stock series, TCL 99160-71. It was featured in the mags at the time, for example Motive Power Monthly May 1990 had a feature on it, including interior pics.

If I could just interupt your lie down for a moment Rob ;o) , 977232 was also in the GWR150 livery and ended up at Hoo Junction grounded as shown on this site but doesn't appear in your list. I believe this was the generator van for the GWR150 rake. When seen at Cardiff Canton Open Day on 6th July 1985 the formation was:
