This is the spare ex-SR vehicle (Class 423) which will be substituted for one of the Class 310 vehicles when the unit moves to the SR for DC lines testing - planned for early 2004 (see news article for more details)

Today the whole unit 960201 travelled from Ilford to Ramsgate for the start of DC lines testing with 977981 now within the consist.

it is worthy of note that this individual vehicle is of MK1 carrage design while all the other carrages in 960201 are Mk2. Therefore 977981 does stand out from all the other cars in the unit making it easily recognisable.
