  I didn't realise until seeing this photo that it is now sat on its own independent piece of track! It also appears that this and its former partner's identity had been mixed up here on the website but I think this has now been resolved! This is 975600 while the one opposite RTC is 975601.

  Any idea what it's present use is? Judging by the steps leading to the vehicle could it be a mobile classroom?

  Some kind of stores vehical as far as I can tell. They're pretty rough inside, so i'd doubt they'd want to keep people in there for too long!

  Received news this morning that this ex Sandite unit & 975601 have been removed and are on their way to "a private location in Essex" where they are to be restored. Unconfirmed at present but it is thought that they are to be returned to their departmental state as a Sandite unit but with a "new" diesel engine (reclaimed from DEMU) which will enable it to be used on preserved railways that have no DC 3rd rail.

  Good to see vehicles being preserved and kept in their departmental state for once - perhaps we may not actually see these two repainted the ubiquitous green either...

  weird isnt it how the southern ground to a halt couple of weeks ago - i wonder if they have ever though of maybe some de-icer and ice breaker units for the third rail lines,

  shame they are all gone isnt it !!

  so now Trace heating on the rail - wow - i never thought of that !! that wont last long once its covered in shite and gunge !!
