    4 September 2004 - Ben Williams

A rare shot of 889005 in use! - most of us now know it as the van which now resides at Bedford (and has done for many years!)

    13 October 2005 - robin morel

Still at Bedford October 2005 although numbers have faded. 3 wagons also in formation, (ADB)715006/715038/715015.

    26 April 2006 - Rob

This van was used as a small Mess office coach for the OHL engineers. It is fitted with a Cooker and other basic messing equipment.

These sidings (former DMU stabling sidings) are to be cleared soon to allow construction of new electrified carriuage sidings to accomodate 12 car length emu stock as part of the Thameslink Programme.

This vehicle (plus 3 other wagons) are in the way and can easily be removed by road

Shame to see them get cut up........

Interesting - thanks Rob. Any takers? I'm sure there will be interest in this ferry van if not the drum wagons... I'm not sure who officially owns them these days though - assume EWS? I once had a note 889005 was Carillion owned...

    31 July 2009 - Ben Williams

Time is running out for this van - end of the year it will have to be moved or scrapped!

  • 889005

    29 March 2010 - Rob Morel

still on site and still uncertain who "legal" owner is along with 3 cable drum wagons, as mentioned before, site to be eventually cleared to provide extra emu stabling

    Can anyone confirm owner?

still sound inside and out and stored securley, the clock is ticking.

With regards to the above comments - it all depends on weather it actually gets offered for resale. Not knowing who owns it could be its downfall.......

Were the 3 vehicles with it actually designed as cable drum carriers or are they underframes of wagons cut down and modified for the task?

  • 889005

    7 May 2010 - Rob Morel

the 3 wagons have all the extra equipment bolted to the floor rather than say converted to have a "well" to house the cable drums. An access platform exists also on one of them. They all ran together as a "mini" overhead line train" With all the changes in ownership over the years of these wagons they appear to have been forgoten about, as a recent survey to clear all sidings of surplus stock to cut out any fire or vandalism risk did not find the owner of these, the other van at bedford a former "BG" (93482)was identified as having an owner who cut it on site. After extensive enquiries with the rolling stock library owner still not identified for these 4 vehicles, which is sad as the van is still invery good condition internally and externally. .

    Hi Rob

With your comments on the stock at Bedford you say the owner of 93482 had

it cut could you tell me who cut up that GUV i have been trying to identify who

    cut it up for years

    Many thanks

    Dave

I don't know who actually did the "gas axe" work but remains taken to nearby EMR depot (European Metal recycling) at Cauldwell Walk in Bedford just next to the railway line south of the station, so it may have been them.

  • 889005

    17 May 2010 - Ben Williams

Current owner I think is still a mystery (although I am making more enquiries) otherwise I fear these will all be soon making their way into a rather large skip in rather small pieces...

  • 889005

    17 May 2010 - kev

strange to see these vehicles still at the depot, they havent left for at least 20 years, the last remnants of the original MML wiring - they are all worthy of preservation as a complete train !!

  • 889005

    17 May 2010 - Jon Horswell

They have been exposed to the elements for so long that all bodyside identification has faded away. On this side at least.

Does anyone know what W2 stands for, as carried on both ends, which while we are on the subject appear to actually be made of wood?

  • 889005

    18 May 2010 - Phil Hetherington

Wooden ends wouldn't be so surprising. As built these had full-width (wooden) end doors and drop-down flaps for loading road vehicles, so it's clearly been altered for its electrification role.

OK I have heard via DBS that they are still officially Carillion owned and I now have a contact name / number / email for anyone who is seriously interested. Contact me at the usual email, thanks.

This is what official records apparently show:

    * ADB 889005 (type ZPX) is owned by Carillion, in registered status, last reported movement 28/02/05

    * ADB 715006 (type ZXX) is owned by Carillion, in registered status, last reported movement 02/11/03

    * ADB 715038 (type ZVX) is owned by Carillion, in registered status, last reported movement 02/11/03

    * ADB 715015 (type ZVX) is owned by Carillion, in registered status, last reported movement 02/11/03

Unless someone can show me otherwise, I don't really see a future for this train. Not wanting to knock anyone or shatter there dreams, but there's enough "Heritage Railways" full of useless tat like this owned by dreamers and tyre kickers without adding more to the pot.

  • 889005

    19 May 2010 - preservation nut

too true sd0853,just ditch the stupid things

  • 889005

    20 May 2010 - Ben Williams

I think the van is potentially useful to someone for storage as its a nice size for a small / mid-size railway project. I would also say that all "Heritage Railways" need to have a massive clear-out of the "useless tat" and accept some vehicles are just beyond repair and are never going to get restored.

I admit the wagons here are not of much use.

  • 889005

    21 May 2010 - Jon Horswell

But are Carillion aware they own these vehicles? They probably thought they owned track machines.

  • 889005

    21 May 2010 - Ben Williams

Well if they didn't, they do now as my DBS email was copied into them too!

  • 889005

    21 May 2010 - perverstion nut

do carillion even exist now!? i thought pepsi colas took over everything?

  • 889005

25 May 2010 - Dave Shell - Northumbria Rail Ltd.

http://www.carillionplc.com/ certainly seem to exist to me

  • 889005

    4 December 2010 - anon

Badly damaged by fire on evening of 3rd December.

  • 889005

    5 December 2010 - Ben Williams

Just received a photo of this van after it was damaged by fire yesterday - not completely gone but badly burnt at this end. Apparently the contractors working on behalf of the Thameslink programme are breaking up the drum wagons at present (not a scrap merchant) but it is thought at this stage it may have been someone sleeping rough inside the van that lit a fire to keep warm!

Either way it looks like the end is finally near....

    Thanks to my contact.

    15 December 2010 - Andy Dickinson

I went past the site yesterday (14th) and there was no sign of this vehicle or the 3 drum wagons. The siding that they were stood on had been lifted.

  • 889005

    15 December 2010 - SD0853

Looked like they were being broken up last week when I passed by on Thursday.

  • 889005

    8 January 2011 - Ben Williams

Broken up on site during December.
