Completely OT, but does anyone know why orange curtains seem to have been standard for living and messing vans? Was it BR just wanting to be jolly! I am not aware of it as a colour used for curtains on any revenue stock.

Curtains on Southern Region Emus were this colour. But with them, you could also wonder why.
And didn't some Mk 1s and 2s also have them this colour.

Certainly Orange Curtains were used extensively in Southern Region loco hauled Mk1 FO's. It is possible that many of the batch were not used and found their way into departmental stock use, as a means of using them up. I know they used to fade very badly, thereby ending up as striped white/orange!

Orange curtains were used for their BR (ScR) Mk1 FO's around 30 years ago.

Orange curtains were Southern standard on gangwayed stock. All the open plan air braked Mark 1's had them, emu's and Hastings Demu's too.

I remember the orange curtains well on the 4 CIG and 4 VEP units. I guess they were such a ghastly colour to deter people from nicking them for use at home!
