Possibly either Highland Railway or Great North of Scotland Railway origin and as a child growing up in Aberdeen in the 50s & early 60s, I believe this was one of two coaches stabled in the sidings adjacent to Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen.

I think it is neither Highland or GNSR and despite where it is I suspect it is GNR 5 comp 6 wheel 3rd. The ventilators and panelling do not look typical for HR or GNSR and a very similar coach is photographed on vintage carriage trust web site ref GNR 836 at Tanfield. A similar, though heavily altered, coach exists near Grimsby in use as a tea room

It has a very definite look of a GNR Howlden 6 wheeler. I would have said a 5 compartment composite but asking around a diagram 157 luggage compo has been suggested.

I stumbled across a photo of DE320564 at Aberdeen Ferryhill still (on a 6 wheel underframe) on the excellent RailScot Website. Very useful for positive id of a very interesting coach. Location at Ferryhill appears to be close to the turntable, there are inconsistencies in the dates between the two photos.
