This was thought to be the coach at Ashford CS underneath the new CTRL flyover but that one is in fact 083264. The coach pictured above is now thought to have been scrapped but confirmation is awaited.

This was formerly S3500 !!! 3500-14 were built as second opens when all other second class coaches were built as third open/third corridor etc!!!
They were used for the tri-class continental boat trains. Please note also the unusual centre door arrangement, where the middle door is in the middle seating bay, only these vehicles and FOs 3003-3019 had this (other than various SR EMUs later on in time!)
Does anyone know whether it survives still? Its unique if it does!

This coach was a BR Mk.1 TSO, ex- S 3500, in Departmental service it was allocated to the CM&EE as an office. The livery was olive green overall.
It was unusual at this period for the Southern to use Mk.1's in departmental service, as there were plenty of Maunsell (and even pre-Grouping!) coaches available to choose from.

The disposal of this one is still a bit of a mystery although we suspect it was scrapped on site around the time of the CTRL works in the area unless anyone knows different!

I believe S3500 became 082241 in 1967 at Weymouth before being renumbered to DS70320 in 1971.
24 July 2020 - Peter Hall
Suspect the 02/06/2000 sighting at Eastleigh is a mistake for something else.
