Fascinating picture of one of the two BR Fish Vans taken into SR internal user stock in 1981. Had not realised it had moved from East Croydon to Hoo Junction at this time. Andy, could you email me on peter@hall59.freeserve.co.uk as I am a bit confused about some of what was happening at Hoo Junction with regard to condemned stock at the time and feel sure you can help. General consensus is that this is the Bluebell Railway Fish Van but I have always had a niggling doubt about the true identity. I first saw it there in April 1995 and could not find anything on it in the way of identification. Subsequent enquiries at the railway and those connected with it drew a blank. The best I ever got was that it just turned up and don't know where it came from. I did not record it as present on previous visits in 1990 and 1992 so unless I missed it must have arrived C1993/94.
It is interesting to note this was last seen in 1986 whilst 083403 (87820) that has also been suggested was last seen in 1991. If this is the Bluebell one where was it from 1986 to 1995?

If it helps clarify things, the buffer type fitted to the van at the Bluebell matches those fitted to 083402 in the photos on this site, but do not match those fitted to 083403.
