was that the lowmac that 2 class 31's ran away into in the 1980's launching it through the stopblock?

Its well covered by vegitation now - the milepost marker in the photo is "242/II" and the wagon is behind this on the nth side of the line

I cannot for the life of me match up this location on Google Earth to try and see this vehicle....does it even still exist?? Can anyone help please, I'll be travelling past here next Wednesday...
24 July 2019 - Greg Hartle
To add to my comment, I mean the exact location of where the photograph was taken...
25 July 2019 - Ben Williams
I've had a look too and afraid I can't remember where I saw it in 2009 although I was passing on train too. I suspect it may have moved since the photo as it doesn't seem to appear on Google views. It was seen in Feb this year though...
25 July 2019 - Dan Adkins
As far as I know it's still there, but not visible at all in the summer months.

Thanks for the info guys, yes Ben that's what made me think it may still be extant...and Dan, I can imagine that's the case as the comment from Paul in 2011 suggests it's 'blending in', but even so I still can't work out exactly where it should be found at Tavistock. Is it the yard area near the derelict parcel van? Or is it nearer the main line before the yard junction coming from the east? Puzzled...
25 July 2019 - Vince
It looks like it's further east from the main yard, visible from the "buyology" car park...

Brilliant cheers Vince! Great help, had a look on Google Earth again and I can see where it is now, behind the milepost but.....completely engrossed in a bush! I'll have a quick butcher's when I head past, but will need an eagle eye to try and spot a buffer or two sticking out!
3 August 2019 - Greg Hartle
This rusting vehicle is indeed visible (both ends and a little of the side) on the right hand side travelling from the east or left when coming from the west.Look out for Buyology, which is just before or after Tavistock Yard depending which direction you're travelling. It appears when their car park does..

The post van 94540 and Shark DB993840 were removed from Tavistock Jcn yesterday - both heading for Plym Valley. I suspect this wagon still exists but is now probably completely covered with vegetation and no one knows it is there? Also outside the main yard so extraction might prove tricky...
27 April 2026 - Ben Williams
I'm reliably informed this is no longer where it used to be. No other info at present...
