  Lab 23, as with Lab 10, was used as a generator coach for the POP-Train and Hastings Coach (Lab 4) tests. It was also in BR Blue/Grey originally and we called it 'The BG' at the time. It was then re-painted in the R&D Div Blue/Red scheme before being re-painted once more in the 'Inter-City' scheme in the photo. Rather oddly I can't see the circular radiator grille in this photo that it had at one time, perhaps it's on the other side.
