This loco (D8237) was one of four redundant class 15 locos that were converted by the former Eastern Region to non self-propelled generator vehicles. ADB 968000 moved to Bristol Bath Road carriage sidings for a while for heating Mk 3 sleeper stock. D8233 (ADB 968001) is the only survivor - currently at Crewe Railway Age.

The loco on the right 31008 was itself later converted to a carriage heating unit as ADB968016. It was scrapped at Crewe Works in 1984. Thanks to Neil for this extra information.

Yes, it's at Bury alright. But it's under a tarpaulin at the east side of the steam shed. Easily visible from the entrance to the Metrolink contractors' car park off Baron Street if the tarpaulin's off which it might be when it's being worked on at weekends.

can anyone explain the reason behind the two sets of ETH jumpers/sockets?

i know that left-hand socket/right-hand jumper cable is 'normal', but what was the 'reversed' left-hand cable/right-hand socket used for?
