This saloon, 80943, 80972, 80974, 80975 and 80976 were built at Swindon Works in 1948. I am sure the railway enthusaists would prefer these to say "GWR Inspection Saloon" rather than "BR (GWR Design) .......... ......." ? If so, I must respect the railway buffs !

  • DW 80970

    4 February 2012 - Ben Williams

Now for sale via GWR website

  • 25 April 2020 - Peter Hall

The Preservation Location of this would now appear to be North Norfolk Railway, referenced on their website at https://www.nnrailway.co.uk/portfolio-items/br-inspection-saloon-no-w80970w/?portfolioCats=20%2C18%2C19%2C30%2C31%2C24%2C32%2C25 now being owned by Locomotive Maintenance Services. I understand it was overhauled at Locomotive Maintenance Services Loughborough workshops sometime in the last few years which might account for the lack of recent sightings.
