This van was one of two to be used to provide an electrical supply for the Southern Region "Mobile Control Trains", which were based at Tonbridge Wells West and at Faversham. The Control Trains were in effect mobile telephone exchanges, intended to provide emergency communications in the event of Nuclear War.
