15 March 2009 - Martin Allen
This is a Southern Railway "GBL" or Gangwayed Bogie Luggage van. Built from the underframe of a LSWR coach numbered 3001, built 1905. Luggage van body added 1930 at Ashford works and given the number S 2339, diagram number 3098. Requisitioned in WW2 and became ambulance car number 3609 in the UK casualty evacuation trains. To Departmental service 2-4-60, allocated to the Cable & Track Section, as a staff and tool van. Withdrawn 25-8-81.
