This van along with another PMV were sold about 2015 for possible camping coach use at an unknown location and was confirmed by the MHR following enquiries.
4 October 2024 - Peter Hall
Roger, I don't suppose you know the identity of the other PMV that has gone from the Mid Hants. Could it be DS93 (2196)? This of course moved to Railway Retreats, Northiam. As we now know by 2021 another ex SR PMV/CCT had arrived at Railway Retreats. This was presumed at one time to be 024534 (1770) however this subsequently turned up at the Buckinghamahire Railway Centre. If you look at the comments for 024534 it is my suspicion that the "1770" seen at Wittersham Road was a crane not a van. From what you have established it would appear 2188 & 2196 both going to Northiam would tally.

Peter, following on from your inquiry whether the other PMV removed from the MHR, together with S 2188 S / KDS 11, was S 2196 S / DS 93, I have gone through all the S.R. PMV disposals, and the only one that fits is S 2196 S, so I have contacted the MHR again to ascertain what the other vehicle was. Unfortunately, they do not know the number, but said that the two were sold at the same time in 2015 for possible glamping or camping coach use at an unknown location, and that could be the reason why it was quite a long time before they turned up at Railway Retreats. S 2196 S was last noted on the MHR on 13/2/15, and about the same time as S 2188 S was reported sold. This however begs the question, was S 2196 S actually identified by number on 14/10/20 on the MHR, or just presumed ?

Roger, thanks for making further enquiries and your detailed response. I would agree that the sighting of S2196S / DS93 does now look suspicious in the light of what we now know. Especially as no one else had submitted a sighting of it at the Mid Hants since 2015.
As I'm sure you will be aware, this is just one of a number of queries surrounding SR PMV's, some departmental, some not, at the moment. Seemingly another left the Mid Hants in March but its identity has not yet been established. The current queries are on my Amendment Sheet 168 which can be viewed on the RCTS website at https://features.rcts.org.uk/4793-2/
