This van made it out of Booths in one piece - its now at the G&WR. Presumably it went here for scrap (with 083523 just visible on the right - photo on the site soon) but then sold on from there... It also seemed to spend some time in the Midlands in the early 90s (after its original base at Eastleigh) so presumably it was sent north by rail.

I can add some detail here. I think this was one of a batch of vehicles which was consigned to Coopers Metals, Handsworth for scrap from Eastleigh around 1989. However upon arrival this (and others) was rejected by Coopers as it was a van and they would only accept wagons. I believe it was moved to Bescot Yard where it remained until resold by B R to Booths.

In the shot of it at Booths it isn't clearly visible, but it has "D1023" and "Western Fuseiler" written in the center panels in blue, rather hand daubed. Can anyone shed any light on that ?

    cheers

I think this is the van from the NRM at York, if it is, it was NEVER part of the collection, it was used as a match truck to bring the 2BIL unit north to York, but never got returned....it was then used at the NRM as a stores van for years,,,,,

Dont think this was ever at NRM, although willing to be corrected. You may be thinking of 975672 - which is still there.

I've just checked at the NRM when I was there today, and you are correct it isnt the one I thought it was, even though the one at the NRM should be destined for scrap to clear the yard.
