Amazingly the underframe of this carriage survives - originally at the Embsay Steam Railway (with ECJS clerestory "RTO" 189 body on top) it is currently at Doncaster Wabtec (and has been for some time.) Anyone know why it went there and when it is likely to return?

I can sort of help here. The coach on top of the frame is historically very important in terms of ECJS. In pre-preservation it was on a pig farm at Holme on Spalding Moor. The coach went to Doncaster works 7/03 for the 150th anniversary of the "plant" along with lots of other LNER stuff. Two web sites( vintage carriage trust and Embsay Railway) say it was to have its ride height and springing sorted at the same time but I find it hard to believe that this may take 5 years! Ken Hoole did a definitive book on ECJS and it has a mention. No idea of a a return date!
