Seems only yesterday this unit was being converted... but in fact it was 2003!

Having spent years commuting in these things between Liverpool Street and Chelmsford I'm not mourning its departure!

I have to say that the 312s were better than the 321s in comfort terms - I always used to make a big effort to get the 18.32 Liverpool St - Shenfield as it was guaranteed 312 (Colchester line) rather than a Southend service 321...

I agree because they (One) sometimes put a 321 on a Norwich Service when a Class 90 has failed! Now I'm living in Stowmarket, I rarely commute to London and usually drive, but occasionally spoil myself with Class 90 + Mk3s.

Except this was a 310. ;)

I wasn't going to mention that, since Dave's comment was relevant and the main differences between a 310 and a 312 are one corridor connection and about 9 years, but you are of course quite right!

of all units built and i have commuted on the am10 fleet was one of the best in my opinion, great to kip on, proper seating, friendly appearance. their friendly motor hum & their distinctive braking hiss.
of course all but a memory now..
