What is the purpose of this coach and the others ins it's consist?

They were intended to be used as generator vehicles with the Nightstar sleeper vehicles (using class 37 locos.) However as the project never got off the ground these coaches never saw any use and I'm not sure what the future holds as they face eviction from North Pole soon.... presumably they are unrecognisable as sleeper carriages inside now...

2 x generating sets (diesel engine + generator) to supply 2500V (!) train supply in each coach

one of these would've been sandwiched between 2 x EPS cl.37/6 locos, when hauling the trains north of london. up till then the trains would've been cl.92 hauled, which were able to supply the ETS from the loco.

The "Night Star" stock was masivley hungry for ETS, hence the massive supply voltage from these generator vans. Can't remember the exact ratings for ETS but I know a couple of "NightStar" sleepers would have made a 47 grunt apparently.

These coaches are being moved from Wembley to Wolverton this week although only 4 out of the 5 have been quoted so far.

these vehicles have so many uses, im so surprised noone has taken them on, even as stand alone generators on possessions etc

if one was offered to me (free, gratis ) etc, id take one on happily

mainly because they unique, they were a solution to a idea which was paid for and never happened.

imagine the train being used by scotrail - amazing

Now told that 96372,3,4,5 are the ones moving to Wolverton - believed to be donating their bogies to DRS. 96371 is staying at Alstom Wembley for the time being.
