Used in experiments to measure CWR "track buckles" under simulated conditions. Not sure about the underframe origins, I believe it's based on a "Freightliner" type vehicle.

Dear Harold,
I've just noticed that on this photo, the measuring wheelset (positioned below the "Lab 25" lettering) has been removed from the vehicle. Refer to the previous photo on the link, to see what I mean.
As for DC 400000, it has its own page on this website, type in the number in the "search" box to go to the link. I did take a photo of this wagon on the same day as RDB 602150, but there are four photos on the website already, so I did not submit it. Contact me off list if you want a copy.

Dear Martin,
4 wheel Wickham vehicle started in 1970s made me think its number is DC 460000, I am wrong. Thank you

This vehicle was a converted Freightliner flat and was built for the purpose of detailed investigation into lateral track forces, curving and rail corrugations. It was fitted with low track force fabricated bogies in place of the normal Gloucester 3-piece and had its chassis raised. A retractable Load Measuring Wheel was fitted between the existing bogies. Onto the centre of the vehicle was built the accommodation for the crew and the instrumentation etc and the outer ends were left open and used for loading purposes - note on the photos the rail packs which were also used on HSFV1.
Later known as Lab 25, it now had ten wheels and consequently was christened 'Decapod'.
