This vehicle, MTU No:2, was part of the LMS Mobile Test Plant which comprised the LM Region No.3 Dynamometer Car M45049, Mobile Test Units Nos. 1, 2 and 3 M45053, M45054 and M45055 and a special locomotive tender, all designed and built by the LMS at Derby C&W Works in 1938 but not completed until after WW2.

M45053 is preserved at York but is in very poor condition

This photo of fresh 45054 probably be in 1949, also the Dynamometer Car 45049, Mobile Test Unit 45053, 45055 and this vehicle built for newly created British Railways.
