News - Help Wanted Please!

22 January 2006 - thanks to John Scotford, Brian Loughlin, John Silverthorne, Mark Thomas & Peter Wreford for this article

Well its only January and already we have a lot of questions that need answers!

MYSTERY ONE
Two flat Rectank wagons have been seen at Swansea Landore depot recently - 061081 is likely to be one of them but the other is a mystery! It is thought it could be one from another depot such as 060973 ex-Laira, 061085 ex-Old Oak Common or even 061082 ex Bristol Bath Road as this disposal isn't confirmed! One other source suggests they may have appeared at the depot around 2003.

***UPDATE FEB 27TH 2006 *** It is thought these wagons arrived shortly after the two CCT vans 061094 and 061095 departed in 2003 as they took their siding space.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** This has now been confirmed as 061082.

MYSTERY TWO
061094 (977254) is on the move again! It has now left Swindon workshops - destination unknown at present.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** This was actually still present as an underframe in November 2006 along with 083652 from Eastleigh!

MYSTERY THREE
The 5 OHLM coaches have recently been removed from Oxford Hinksey yard by road - current destination is unknown although it is known they have not gone to either MOD Caerwent or Booths in Rotherham.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** These actually went to Sims, Newport in January 2006.

MYSTERY FOUR
977695 has disappeared from Eastleigh Down CS - again destination / fate unknown! This was apparently owned by Network Rail so could have been sent to Throckmorton or York?

***UPDATE FEB 27TH 2006 *** This van was today noted at Throckmorton Airfield in Worcestershire.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** This has now been sent to Booths for scrap.

MYSTERY FIVE
Continued from the last news article - 083264 and 083650 have disappeared from their long term home near Ashford station although it is not clear yet where they have gone.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** These two are still missing! Expected to have been scrapped on site?

MYSTERY SIX
Another mystery ongoing from last year is the current location of 977974 and 977983 (72503) - neither have been seen since November 2004!

***UPDATE FEB 27TH 2006 *** It is thought 977983 is expected to be back in service soon.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** 977974 is still stored at Derby, 977983 is back in service.

MYSTERY SEVEN
80211 and 92114 at Derby Etches Park - these two vehicles were converted at the end of 2003 but have seen no use! 971000 was even allocated to 92114 although this seems to have been abandoned too - if anyone knows what is going on here it would be very welcome!

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** 92114 has recently been observed at RTC so may see some use soon?

MYSTERY EIGHT - ADDED JANUARY 28TH 2006!
Continuing on with Etches Park it seems the former Gatwick Express vehicles have recently disappeared from the yard here along with internal user van 024953. Their destinations are not known - but again it is likely they may have gone for storage at Throckmorton Airfield or York (former Thrall works) perhaps?

***UPDATE MARCH 18TH 2006 *** The Gatwick vehicles 72603, 72608, 72640 & 72641 have indeed been found at Throckmorton although 024953 is still missing.

***UPDATE FEB 11TH 2007 *** 024953 is still missing! 72608 & 72641 are stored at Allely's yard, 72603 & 72640 have gone to Booths.
