News - Hexthorpe and Carnforth disposals

17 February 2004 - thanks to John Hall and Martin Foster for this article

The disposal of former OHLM coaches has recently begun.
The redundant set that had resided at Preston sidings for many months moved to Carnforth Bottom End sidings (to join 975535) in January and this week it has been reported that only two remain.

The set formerly comprised 975701/702/715/725/735/745/908/909 but on 16th February 2004 only 975701 and 975725 remained with cutting underway on 975701.

****UPDATED 26TH FEBRUARY 2004****
By 20th February all vehicles from this set had been cut. The contractor that carried out the work was HNRC.

Meanwhile at Doncaster's Jarvis depot at Roberts Road (Hexthorpe) the scrapman has returned to site and in the 12 weeks from 2nd February I have been told that "72 vehicles" are due to be scrapped.

A report of 14th February noted that 975691/710 and 975730 had already been scrapped towards the Sheffield end of the yard while the rest of the OHLM coaches remain for the time being including 975740 which is burnt out. The contractor for this work is reported to be DNL of Stoke on Trent.

More developments will be posted here and on DPTgen
