have these vehicles ever actually been used in anger or have they just been kept in case?

They were built for powering the 'Nightstar' international sleeper trains on non electrified routes. They would have been sandwiched betwen two class 37/5 to provide the huge train (up to 16 coaches) with power for the showers etc. The whole program was cancelled in 1997 and the trains never ran, so these coaches have only ever been test run, no 'in anger' uses. The Nightstar stock was sold to Canada and is used there now.

Rumour has it that DRS have purchased these 5 generator vans although quite why is not yet clear. They have spent almost all their entire exsistence in storage in one long line at the back of North Pole depot. When extricated for movement they were found to be green with moss! The EPS logos were still very shiny though!! At least they could be moved and hopefully a brighter future now awaits. They are after all expensive pieces of kit. Due to their '96' series numbers they were for a while classed on TOPS as locomotives!!!

Apologies, I asked the wrong question! What I meant was, what are the plans for it now? I had presumed it would go to Temple Mills as that's where all the other Euro stuff is, but it's at Wembley, so what are the plans? I presume there is no 'what are the plans now?' buttons on this site are there?

This and the other two are now at International Metals & Cable Recycling, Long Marston.
